Roof insulation for homes

We insulate the roofs of homes in Germany. When planning the insulation, we consider whether the space under the roof contains heated rooms or an unheated loft.

Model of a house with dark bituminous underlay on a pitched roof deck and a small section of finished covering above it.

Where does the heated part of your home end?

Where bedrooms extend into the roof, the insulation in the roof slopes needs to meet the surrounding walls and continue around roof windows. In a home with an unheated loft, the ceiling below it may separate the heated rooms from the cold space. A future loft conversion can change which part of the building needs insulation.

What to include in your enquiry

  • Present and future loft use

Tell us which rooms are heated and whether you plan to convert the loft. Identify the part of the house you want to insulate.

  • Roof area and existing insulation

Give an approximate roof area and describe any visible insulation. Mention its type or thickness if known. Photos of accessible areas can help explain the existing roof build-up.

  • Access and other planned work

Describe how the loft is reached and whether the rafters are exposed or already lined. Mention any plans to replace the covering or refit the rooms below.

Questions about insulating a house roof

What affects the cost of insulating a roof?

Relevant factors include the area of the roof slopes, the condition of existing layers and access to them. Roof windows, junctions with walls and other planned renovation work can also affect the scope.

What can I provide if I have no roof drawings?

Describe the roof shape, the rooms beneath it and what you can see from the loft. Approximate dimensions and photos of accessible sections help identify what needs a closer look.

What does the bituminous underlay do beneath a pitched roof covering?

On a solid deck, overlapping strips of bituminous underlay provide a second line of protection against rain that gets past the finished covering. If the covering is due for replacement, include the condition of the decking in your enquiry.

Prepare a project enquiry

Describe the work you have in mind for your home or production hall, such as roofing, thermal or acoustic insulation, or exterior finishing.
